I agree with the above suggestions about a 400, but they are getting more and more expensive. The 383 is a step up and 350 blocks are all over the place.

At that power level and the lower RPMs nearly stock-strength parts will do fine if properly prepped. Properly built and tuned, blown stock blocks will take over 800hp, with no girdles or other money-sucking parts. I know a few guys that are doing just that.
