The beta does not currently have the linux executable. Steam cannot start it. The one it ships with is for a deprecated version. it does launch though. In the General tab click on “Set launch options” and type “-forceuid3d9”. After that, download and install DirectX files. Start the game and it will be working fine. WebAug 5, 2015 · Black Mesa tends to use higher-res assets than Half-Life 2, so that's probably why it takes a relatively longer time for maps to load. I'm not sure the devs can really do much about it because that's just how the Source Engine is. Even a decked out Episode Two map can take its sweet time loading. You should be fortunate that it's only 10 seconds.
